During the '70s Evel Knievel was a true global
superstar, the Godfather of extreme sports. His death defying stunts (some a
little too close to death for comfort!) thrilled excited audiences throughout
the planet. It is said that more people in the USA recognise the name of Evel
Knievel than the name of the President! A true legend, the World's greatest
daredevil!
When the Evel Knievel toy products
were launched in 1973 there wasn't a kid in the land who didn't want their very
own Evel Knievel figure & stunt cycle. I remember one Christmas carefully
unwrapping a parcel that I knew enclosed my Evel Knievel toy, shaking in eager
anticipation of the treasure inside. I wasn't disappointed. I recall many happy
days creating D.I.Y stunt sets for my Evel Knievel toy involving anything I
could get my hands on....mud, bits of wood, stones, even my Dad's slippers!, it
remains my favourite Christmas gift ever. I have friends who keep their
original Evel Knievel toy sets lovingly under wraps some 30 odd years later;
pretty valuable in their own right now, but in our
hearts....priceless!!!!
